echo

Category: Outlines

Definition: Short reprise of a musical phrase after the number was already formally closed. The echo occurs after the time code and cannot be labelled as a musical number per se. This can happen right after the number ended, as a sort of second ending (e.g. stage number ending with the audience’s applause, three more notes played by the orchestra, then followed by the repetition of the chorus or performers’ taking their final bow while the music starts again), or even much later. Not to be used in “partial reprise”.

Example: Ending of “We Open In Venice”; “Two Dreams Met” (Down Argentine Way) (from 19:00 to 19:28) - “When My Dreams Come True” (1) (Cocoanuts)
