Definition: The performance is neither a song nor a choreography. This includes “fake” numbers where you can hear a song in the background from which the show never properly emerges (“Opening Scene” in Ziegfeld Follies). It also includes numbers which resemble skits or acrobatics, hence unable to be characterised along criteria of dance or singing, but which remain clearly musical. Exception : Spoken but non-singing skits in Ziegfeld Follies are not to be classified.
